We talk to a lot of founders, CEOs, Heads of Sales, Marketing and Operations and preparedness for scale is often too far down their list of priorities when they are eager to grow rapidly. Often the priority is perfecting the product/service or increasing lead flow or number of salespeople to accelerate revenue growth.
Undoubtedly, those are potentially good avenues to explore and invest in to accelerate growth, but they will ultimately lead you to hitting your head on the preverbal ceiling if you have not taken the time to structure your team and operations to handle that type of growth.
Preparing to scale is a team sport and should be a synchronized series of decisions and actions across your business from product, marketing, sales, operations, customer service and even product/service delivery.
This concept might seem straightforward, but we have seen numerous examples of businesses that get their wish of rapid growth and end up failing to capitalize on the moment. With that in mind here are 5 simple questions you can ask yourself about your preparedness to scale:
Are you Prepared to Scale?
5 Questions to Ask Yourself ↓
1
If the demand for my product or service tripled tomorrow, could I fulfill those orders in a timely manner?
2
Do I have my sales operations in place to rapidly grow my sales team?
3
Do I have a proven change management strategy that will enable my team to rapidly expand without breaking down?
4
Are my product, marketing, and sales teams aligned on the correct ICP and messaging in the marketplace?
5
Do I have the right team and expertise in place to rapidly grow and enable me to delegate effectively?
If the answer to some (or all) of these questions is a “no”, you are not alone!
Step 1 in preparing to scale is coming to the realization that you must pause long enough to make these actions a priority. Congratulations...You just completed step 1!
We highly recommend pausing to truly assess the current state of your business and get a full 360-degree view of your entire revenue operations. Identifying those existing gaps in your preparedness to scale will allow you and your team to quickly prioritize the right actions needed to unlock the rapid revenue growth you are seeking.
